Replacing the heater channel.

With the rusty metal removed, it was time to offer up the new panel. Not bad for a days work, I was quite chuffed with myself.

Short lived .

My feeling pleased for myself was short lived. Once I'd offered the new panel up, it became instantly evident that due to the front bulkhead already been replaced, the heater channel wasn't just gonna 'pop' into place.

The body is gonna have to come off to get it into place :-(

I do have some good news though, the door gap has stayed correct. 950mm! The bracing has done its job.

Contemplating new ideal.

While I'm in the garage, I can't help but daydream about new ideas. When I replaced my dash for something a little more race inspired, I was a little hasty with my selection of buttons for things like the headlights and wipers... I've decided now that I want to do away with the square switches, and source a round headlight switch out of something like a Lupo or an Arosa. I also want to install a dash light dimming switch so all the Autometer gauges don't blind me at night!

To add this in, I'm going to have to acquire some 'old skool' panel beating skills because I need to curve some metal in 2 directions. It'll look cool when its done though!

I've also decided to do away with the standard fuel filler flap too. It'll be a shame to butcher a brand new front quarter, but why the hell not? I'm gonna remove the metal round the filler flap area, fill it with some sheet steel, then cut a hole in it and slap a esparto aero style fuel filler in its place.
