Building a Street Racer!

Since I last worked on it, it's moved garages. The new garage needed the concrete floor sorting out, and it needed some power! All this took much longer than I wanted. Anyway, its in its gnaw home now, and I thought it was time that we had a new blog to follow its restoration, so welcome!

Replacing the offside door pillar.

I'd already done the nearside pillar, so I kinda knew what I was in for. Since then, I'd bought myself a Hooky's door pillar aligning tool. This made it much easier to line things up and make sure it all fits when it comes to build up time.

Cutting out the heater channel.

This was a job that I really wasn't looking forward too. The heater channels on this bug are pretty much none existent, and therefore, it's difficult to see where the channel finishes, and the body panels start.

As I'd already replaced the front quarters, the front had already been detached from the rusty channel. All that needed to be removed was the 13mm bolts holding the 'pan to the body, and the rear part of the heater channel.

Easier than I expected.

A tickle with a hacksaw and a bash with a hammer made easy work of the heater channel across the door gap. Easy peasy!

It was then time for that bit at the back. As you can see in the images to the right, there's not a lot of metal left!

Check out the amount of rust that 'fell' out!
